The idea for global wind day came about in 2005 when European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) launched its "WindMade" campaign. This campaign was created to increase awareness about wind energy and its potential to help fight climate change. In 2008, EWEA decided that an annual global wind day would be the best way to continue raising awareness about this renewable energy source.
